Jesuit Estancia

We meet you at Tucumán City´s airport and transfer you to a Jesuit estancia, Las Carreras. Set in a landscape of paralyzing beauty, only 12 kms from Tafí del Valle, the Jesuit Estancia Las Carreras is located in the province of Tucumán in the northwest region of Argentina. The original manor house was built by the Jesuits around the year 1718. The house was enlarged and renovated to provide more comfort to the guests while respecting the style and mood of the original architecture. This is an excellent place to learn about the Argentine ways and traditions, being this a working dairy and agriculture farm. After nine generations, they still continue with the manufacturing of the cheese that they mark with letter “M”. Using the same recipe brought by the Jesuits 300 years ago and using cow milk, they manufacture cheeses that are internationally well-known . They have 6 varieties. Families can appreciate the milking process and the subsequent manufacturing of the cheese. Welcome dinner in the estancia. Night in Estancia Las Carreras.

Riding along grasslands

You will have breakfast and then have an introduction to the gaucho´s life. In the morning, you can hike in the surrounding mountains covered by high grasslands. Lunch in the estancia. After lunch, you can do a horseback ride around the estancia. There is a very near stream where you can bath. Learning about the Jesuit heritage, a fundamental part of the history and founding of South America is a part of this day. Encounter the inmensity of the Calchaquí Valley, the richness of the countryside with its exquisite tranquility while enojoying the Argentine Manchego cheese. Dinner in the estancia. The Calchaqui Valley

We will have breakfast in the estancia and then leave early in the morning towards Cafayate. Visit to the Pachamama Museum in Amaicha del Valle. Then you continue to the Ruins of Quilmes where the kids can hike. The Ruins of Quilmes is an archaeological site in the Calchaquí Valleys. The site was the largest pre-Columbian settlement in the country, occupying about 30 hectares. It is believed that about 5.000 people lived there. Although discovered in 1888, were first studied in 1897 by the archaeologist Juan Bautista Ambrosetti. Dinner in the hotel. Night in Cafayate Wine Resort.

Biking Cafayate

You can have breakfast and go biking around Cafayate. Cafayate is an unique and excellent grape-growing region in the world. Visit to Bodega Piattelli, situated amongst breathtaking ancient red rock formations and mountains in the Calchaquí Valleys. This winery sits at 1.768 metres aove sea level (5.800 feet). Visit to the winery, taste high altitude wines and lunch with an incredible view. In the afternoon, you will visit the Vine and Wine Museum to learn more about wines. At the end of the day, tour to the sand dunes, an excellent place for kids to play. Dinner in the hotel. Night in Cafayate Wine Resort.

Cabra Corral Dam

This day, you will go through the Quebrada de las Conchas Natural Reserve. It is also known as the Gorge of the Shells due to the amount of marine fossils it contains. This road has a particular geography that has been carved by wind and rain. Surprising rock formations seen in gorges and multicoloured mountains surprised the traveler. Some of these formations are the Garganta del Diablo or Devil´s Throat, The Amphitheatre and the Castles.
Cabral Corral Dam. These places are ideal to stop with kids, because they can hike.Lunch at Posta de Cabras. Then you will go towards Cabra Corral Dam. It is one of the most attractive and best buit dams in Argentina. It has 127 sqkm of water, framed by green hills. Visit the dam by boat. Dinner in the hotel. Night in Hotel del Dique.

Rafting in the Juramento River

Prepare for this fun day of rafting, flying across canyons using a canopy system and later learning about goats. The level of difficulty of the river provides a perfect combination of adventure and safety. We will have dinner in a family farm. This family has rescued traditions and unique objects, and create the first Tobacco Museum in Argentina and an Archaeological Museum of particular importance. They produce tobacco, goat cheese, pepper, aromatic herbs and native trees. They have been awarded by Slow Food International for their delicious food made with the production of their organic orchard, the goat cheeses and the biodiversity conservation. Adventure in San Lorenzo

Transfer from Hotel del Dique to San Lorenzo. Horseback ride, hike or mountain bike near San Lorenzo. Finca las Costas is a nature reserve bound to preserve the purity of the water consumed in Salta city, and it is there where we go today. The trail leads to Potrero Grande, land destinated to horse breeding, specially quiet and far away from civilization. Across small hidden valleys on the road, crossing streams and forests, we will appreciate beautiful landscapes. In the way back you will go through forests with different types of trees (carobs, caldenes, molles) and there is always the possibility to see different typical animals of the region. Then you can visit the MAAM (High Mountain Archaeological Museum), is one of the most important museums in Argentina. It was created to preserve the frozen bodies of the Children of the Llullaillaco, three Inca childs found perfectly preserved in 1999, on the summit of the Llullaillaco Volcano at 6.700 metres above sea level (21.981 feet). Their magnificent funerary offerings are also kept with them, as well as diverse objects, tools and crafts distinctive of this ancient civilization. A farewell dinner in a typical restaurant will give you the chance to listen to locals playing the guitar. Night in San Lorenzo at Las Moras Hotel.
